Fishing Competition

Mansfields alongside Pilgrims Hospices held their annual Pilgrims Hospices Challenge Cup fishing competition at Broad Oak Fishing Lake, Near Canterbury on 7th July 2019.

Paul Mansfield hosts The Hospice Challenge Cup that is in its ninth year now and the emphasis is on family fun and enjoyment in peaceful picturesque surroundings. The weather was a typical July day a mixture of sun and cloud but above all dry. Again, the trusty bouncy castle and the Giant Connect 4 was a big hit with the kids and plenty took advantage of the face painter too. There was also a colouring corner with some promising rising talents on the day.

Everyone tucked in to the hearty breakfast baps and refreshments that marked a promising start of the day.

The Fishing competition widespread promotion of fishing as a healthy outdoors activity for people of all ages, abilities, races, genders and backgrounds is exactly what angling does best – brings people together. This Fishing Day has the potential to take this to the next level by putting the excitement of angling in front of a new audience who have yet to discover the wonders of angling and encourage more people to go fishing more often.

This year we had a new sponsor that came all the way from East Grinstead to provide us with delicious Fish and Chips at lunchtime. Rickie and his team have a passion for food and they really brought it to their menu.

Team Angels PC Clinic & Ridgeback AV won the Challenge Cup with an overall catch of 11.11lb pictured alongside being presented with the trophy by Paul Mansfield and Cate Russell, CEO of Pilgrims Hospices.

Berry Gardens took the prize for the biggest fish caught with a 6 pound 15 oz fish.

Pilgrims Hospices is our chosen charity as it is so close to many people within Kent. No less than one in four local families in the East Kent area are affected and rely on the invaluable support that Pilgrims Hospices provide. Being such a prominent charity within Kent the event is well supported by employees, suppliers, customers, friends & family alike.

A Big Thank You to All Who Helped

With the fantastic support received we raised £11,256.45 on the day. That takes our total after 9 years of fundraising to a staggering £101,660.28 – a phenomenal achievement!

We are most grateful to all those that participated by either coming along and fishing or by making a contribution towards the incredible raffle prizes which made such a difference towards the final total.
