After almost five decades of dedicated service, Mansfields has bid a fond farewell to one of its longest-serving employees, Fred Newing, as he retires from the business.
Fred began his career at Mansfields in 1977 in Dargate, Kent, working as a forklift driver. It wasn't long before he moved into tractor driving, a role that would see him become a familiar and highly respected figure across the farm.
His journey began under the leadership of company founder Buddy Mansfield, during the early years of the business. Farming has long been a family affair for Fred – his mother also worked for Mansfields and remained with the company well into her seventies, making the family's connection to the business one that spans generations.
Throughout his 49 years with Mansfields, Fred has witnessed significant change and growth. From advancements in farming technology and infrastructure to major investments and business expansion, and seen the company develop into the leading fruit-growing business it is today.
Fred's commitment, loyalty and hard work have made him a valued member of the Mansfields team, he has been a constant presence through decades of harvests, challenges and successes.
